Fostering Effective Relationships
Alberta Education (2019) describes Fostering Effective Relationships as building "positive and productive relationships with students, parents/guardians, peers and others in the school and local community to support student learning." I feel that during my time as a pre-service teacher, I have reached milestones that have allowed me to build relationships in my learning and teaching environment. The artifact on the left features a letter that was sent home with students for their parents. This project was designed to be something that a family could complete together, and so this letter provides a connection with the indicator emphasizing the responsibility of "providing culturally appropriate and meaningful opportunities for students and for parents/guardians, as partners in education, to support student learning."

Another aspect of this competency is present in the artifact to the right. This image was taken by my partner teacher during practicum, and depict my conversation with a group of students during a class instruction. The student I was having a conversation with is coded with needing additional support, and I was taking extra caution to ensure that she was not left behind in the lesson. In my opinion, this artifact demonstrates the indicator "acting consistently with fairness, respect, and integrity." I feel that during my time as a student teacher, I treated all my students with the same respect and consistency no matter the circumstances.
